HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I know, I know. I am 19 days late. I was in Kuala Lumpur for Christmas and for New Year, and I was busy. By the time I got time for myself, I was physically and mentally exhausted – quite honestly, IF I could do absolutely nothing, I would have done absolutely nothing. I was so tired I was not in the mood to play my game or participate in the events! To top it all, I caught the flu; and I was tested NEGATIVE for Covid. I got paranoid that day because I lost the ability to smell. YES, I could not smell my sanitiser and my eucalyptus oil, and got paranoid. So, I got myself tested. I did the whole self-quarantine thing as well until I got the self-test kit.

The most worrying thing for me at that time, I lost my ability to smell on the 3rd and I had my booster shot on the 5th! So, yes, I was paranoid as heck. I even contacted a friend, who have caught the Covid and she said the moment she lost her sense of smell, she was tested positive. So, I was relieved at the result, which I took on the morning of the 4th.

On the 4th, I went to my family doctor to pick up medication for my cold and asked the nurses there if it was okay for me to take my booster shot even with the flu. They said it should not be a problem but let the person there know. So, when the day came, I went to get my booster shot at The Spring Shopping Mall Integrated Vaccination Centre. The shot was administrated by doctors from Kotaraya Batu Kawa Clinic. As I have mentioned before, I HATE NEEDLES, and despite the two first COVID shots, I am still terrified of needles but this time, I convinced myself to be brave and take a video of myself getting my shots. So, the doctor who dealt with me… well, he was awesome. When he saw me, he greeted me nicely and informed me that I was going to get the Pfizer booster shot. So, I told him that I had the flu and my nose was blocked; and he chirped, “It is no problem!” So, with that, I felt relieved. So… While he started preparing, he started singing! Yes, he started singing! It was endearing, really! So, he warned me that he was going to start the injection and I told him I needed to take a video as proof to my family; which made him laugh, by the way. I had the camera on, I was about to close my eyes when I saw the doctor (or medical assistant) putting the plaster on! So I exclaimed, “it is done!” And he chirped (again), “You are done!” I have been through THREE COVID jabs, and the jab with this doctor is by far the best. The funny thought that went through my brain at that time was, ‘if there is a second booster shot, I hope I get him again’.

Also, lately, I have been watching a lot of animes and movies before I squeeze my brain dry. So, below are what I think of the animes and movies I have been watching. I have been watching so many things on my computer and on Netflix, I will write what I enjoyed watching most. I will try to keep it spoiler-free, I promise.

  1. ZOMBIE LAND SAGA (ANIME)
I did not expect to love Zombie Land Saga as much as I did – both the show and the songs. I mean, who would have expect eight zombie girls to become idols? The anime is chaotic, and anything chaotic is a win for me. But let me tell you, despite the chaos in the anime, it made me cry (and I am a sucker for shows, movies OR video games with stories that CAN make me cry like a baby). The show itself is cute although the main characters have tragic backstories but they find friendship in each other. Think, My Little Pony but the main characters are ZOMBIES and they sing.
  2. 86 EIGHTY SIX (ANIME)
I don’t seem like it but I love mecha anime (that isn’t mainstream – so don’t ask me if I watch Gundam). This anime is more on the serious side and it did make me cry, too! Damn, I am a bit of a crybaby, aren’t I? Basically, it is about this girl who is a handler of a group of mech fighters from the 86th District and she is the only one who cares about them while others like her don’t. I am going to say this here and I know SOME people will hate me for it. Honestly, I prefer 86 Eighty Six over Attack on Titan despite the anime having the same heavy theme.
  3. VIVY: FLUORITE EYE’S SONG (ANIME)
Another one that made me cry. LOL! I just finished watching this one last night. If you have played a game called Detroit: Become Human, it has a slightly similar feel. The anime is about the relationship between AIs and human beings. Just like Detroit: Become Human (if you decide to be a deviant), things end up with bloodspill but in Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song, it is up to Vivy, a songstress AI and her partner Matsumoto from the future to change the past. And just like Zombie Land Saga though, the songs are amazing!
  4. ENCANTO (MOVIE – ANIMATION)
Disney’s newest animation movie. Again, another show that made me cry. It is Disney. Some people hate Disney for the attitude of the company but you have to admit, Disney is good at making movies that can make a grown person cry their eyes out. Encanto is about a family with magical abilities. The songs was written by none other than the Lin-Manuel Miranda, who also wrote the songs of Moana. I have a funny story about this one. I did not know he had a hand in the movie until I heard that ONE SONG called Surface Pressure. At that moment, I did not bat an eye until I heard We Don’t Talk About Bruno, and it had that distinctive Lin-Manuel Miranda feeling to it. So, I got onto Aunty Google and she told me, he had a hand in it.
  5. IN THE HEIGHTS (MOVIE)
Hah! Another Lin-Manuel Miranda musical made into a movie. I listened to the Broadway version long before the movie came out but I did not expect to truly enjoy the movie version (but then again, it IS Lin-Manuel Miranda!) I have this thing where I don’t normally enjoy the movie version of a stage musical – look at Cats (2020). I was super disappointed at that one. Sorry, Andrew Lloyd Webber, you should have said something when the cats looked more human than actual cats. You should have retained the 1998 stage movie look. They look like real cats despite being anthropomorphic (and the fact I am not a fan of Taylor Swift, too). Okay, enough criticism. In The Heights is a fun watch but let me tell you this, if you are familiar with Lin-Manuel Miranda’s songs and if you are a fan of Hamilton, you will find yourself realising that In The Heights and Hamilton are somewhat similar – correct me if I am wrong, I think Lin-Manuel wrote In The Heights first before he started writing Hamilton but Hamilton was the reason why he got recognised.
  6. GHOSTBUSTERS AFTERLIFE (MOVIE)
Haaah! This one… I am dying to talk about this one. Before watching Ghostbusters Afterlife, you need to watch the 1984 Ghostbuster to truly understand the connection and trust me, you will appreciate knowing that connection. Although many criticised the 2016 Ghostbusters, I must say that I really liked the CGI but to me, there was no chemistry between the characters. It felt like the movie was written in a hurry (maybe it was, who knows?). But Ghostbusters Afterlife, oh boy, if you have always been a fan since the days of Spengler, Stantz and Venkman, you WILL cry your eyes out. Not going to say more but I am going to say this here the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man is seriously adorable in this movie.
  7. THE WITCHER SEASON 2 (TV SHOW)
I am going to admit it was a stressful watch but it was good. They started talking about the Wild Hunt now that Ciri has trained with the Witchers (if you’ve played the game or read the books, there is no surprise but if you have not, I AM SO SORRY! T_T). The highlight of The Witcher Season 2 for me is… Dandelion. Wait, sorry, Jaskier. I am not going to continue talking about The Witcher because I might end up spoiling it because I love Jaskier even more than I did in Season 1.

Worth mentioning, I finally watched Gen:Lock Season 2 and did not like it as much as I loved the first season. Season 2 was way too depressing. It is like Rooster Teeth is trying to kill off characters. I think that is all I can say for now because Netflix just released Dota: Dragon’s Blood today and I need to catch up with Book 2.

Psst, besides the fact that I have been watching a lot of stuff, I have been playing games on my consoles (PS4 and Nintendo Switch) a lot, too. I played the Assassin’s Creed Crossover event and it made me miss Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. I have the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Crossover event gameplay on my YouTube channel • PART IPART IIPART IIIPART IVPART V • I also played the Odyssey crossover event but I kept desynchronising as I kept mixing up with the commands with Valhalla, so, I decided to replay and record that one another time. Also, I have decided to replay the main game of Odyssey to remind my fingers of the commands.

On my Switch, I have been playing a lot of Girls Und Panzer Dream Tank Match DX (another anime I find myself enjoying – thanks to my brother-in-law whom I call my anime supplier – I mean, he has been introducing a lot of animes that are way better than those mainstream ones). I am glad I bought this game though, at least I get to play something as fun as Girls Und Panzer while on the plane next week!

Yes, I am going to Kuala Lumpur, again and for two weeks. I will be back in Kuching after Chinese New Year. FAMILY DINNER IN KUALA LUMPUR MEANS… awesome food! And when I say family in Kuala Lumpur, I meant Winston and Se Tho who are actually our family friends but they have always been very accommodating and warm with us. Also, Se Tho has referred to herself as my Mum’s other daughter. Dinners with them always mean good food, good company and a hell lot of laughter. Also, my Dad’s birthday is on Chinese New Year itself, so it will be a 2-in-1 celebration (not sure what they have planned on that day as my brother-cousin, Bang Hamzah has been very secretive about it).

All right, I am going to sign off for now. Will blog later! 😉
